How to Choose the Right Quad Bike

Choosing the right electric quad bike comes down to four things: use, budget, battery, and build.

  • Use — Farm and estate work suits the Explorer range; speed and recreation suits the Shredder.
  • Budget — Models start from £799, with lithium upgrades available across the range.
  • Battery — Lead acid is the cost-effective choice; lithium gives longer range and faster charging.
  • Build — Consider motor output (1200w to 5000w) and whether you need a speed restrictor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are quad bikes road legal in the UK?

Most quad bikes are sold for off-road use only and aren’t road legal as standard. To use one on a public road it has to be registered with the DVLA, have type approval, a number plate, road tax and insurance. Our quad bikes are all for off-road use only, meaning they can be used without restriction on private land ensuring you have permission from the landowner, but they can’t be legally driven on UK roads.

What licence do I need to ride a quad bike?

If you’re riding on private land, you don’t need a licence at all. To ride a road-registered quad on a public road, you need a full car driving licence (category B). You also need to be insured and the bike needs to be road legal. No separate motorbike test required.

How much does a quad bike cost?

Prices depend on size, power and whether it’s road legal. Our electric quads start at £799.95 for the Shredder 48 and run up to £8,499.95 for the Explorer GT Li. Electric models save on fuel, servicing and tax over time.

Where can I legally ride a quad bike off-road?

On private land, with the landowner’s permission. You can’t ride across public footpaths, bridleways or open countryside without permission, and off-road quads aren’t allowed on public roads unless they’re registered and road legal.

How long does an electric quad bike take to charge, and how far will it go?

This depends entirely upon your model of quad bike and it’s associated battery. A full charge for most of our models takes around 5-7 hours from empty, and dependent on the model this can give you anywhere from 30-75km of use depending on terrain and load. You can top it up from a standard 3-pin socket.

How much battery power do I need?

It depends on the job. For light leisure use, 48v 20aH is plenty. For farm work, towing or longer days, you’ll want 60v 52aH for the range and pulling power. Tell us how you’ll use it and we’ll point you to the right model.
