We bought this for our 9-year old son, who had outgrown his previous electric quad bike. The look on his face and squeal of joy on his birthday when he opened the garage door were worth every penny. He’s barely stopped smiling since!
This is a much better quad bike than the Amazon-sourced one it replaced (which was still good). However, the Shredder is robustly built without adding excessive weight, and has better tyres and brakes more suitable for the higher available speed.
For young riders to get the feel of the Shredder, it has a 3-position key switch, which allows parents to limit the top speed until a rider has demonstrated confidence and competence at slow speeds. This is an excellent safety feature, especially if friends are offered a go.
The hand guards are good for riding around a large garden and undergrowth, as padded gloves can be uncomfortable in summer; and the absence of a foot pedal also makes for a better ride – especially on slopes.
Battery life has been excellent, even with a sloping garden. So far the rider has become tired before the battery runs out!
The stated top speed of 20mph was taken as a challenge by our son, who managed to get the Shredder up to 23mph downhill, and it can scuff the grass if the rider is too heavy-handed on cornering. However, a short while with a lower speed setting soon cures bad habits…
The purchasing process with Eco-Rider couldn’t have been better, and they were happy to give us advice before the purchase. Delivery was on our chosen day, and we were kept updated at every stage. They supplied the quad bike pre-assembled and charged, so it was a simple case of unstrapping it from the delivery pallet, removing protective wrapping, and it was good-to-go after a few checks of the adjustments – none of which needed changing. Eco-Rider also supply a small tool kit and spare keys. They’re one of the very best suppliers we’ve used in recent years for any product.
Overall, the Shredder is an excellent choice for an adolescent child, and one which should last until they’re well into their teens. Don’t balk at the price – it’s very good value indeed. Our son has had his for some three weeks at the time of writing this review, and he’s been on it almost every day; smiling the whole time!
