How to Choose the Right Electric Go-Kart

Choosing the right electric go-kart comes down to four things: use, budget, battery, and power.

  1. Use – The single-seat Evolution suits solo fun and younger drivers (ages 6-15); the two-seat Evolution Duo is built for sharing and takes teens right through to adults.
  2. Budget – Karts start from £999.95 for the Evolution, up to £2,299.95 for the two-seat Duo.
  3. Battery – Both run on maintenance-friendly lead acid for around 30-35 km per charge. The Evolution charges in 5-7 hours; the bigger 60v Duo takes 8-10.
  4. Power – Outputs run from 1500w on the Evolution to 2200w on the Duo, and both have a 3-stage speed limiter so you can keep things sensible for younger riders.

How fast does an electric go-kart go?

The single-seat Evolution tops out at around 35 km/h and the two-seat Duo at 37 km/h. Both have a 3-stage speed limiter, so you can cap them at 12 to 20 km/h for younger or first-time drivers and open them up as confidence grows.

Are electric go-karts road legal in the UK?

No. Ours are built for off-road use on private land, not public roads. You’ll need a garden, paddock, field or private track to ride on, with the landowner’s permission.

How old do you have to be to ride one?

The Evolution suits ages 6 to 15. The larger two-seat Evolution Duo is built for 8 years through to adult. No licence is needed, as they’re for private land only.

How much does an electric go-kart cost?

The Evolution starts at £999.95 and the two-seat Evolution Duo is £2,299.95, both including VAT. Finance is available through Payl8r if you’d rather spread the cost.

How far will it go on a charge, and how long does charging take?

Both cover roughly 30 to 35 km on a full charge, depending on terrain, rider weight and speed. The Evolution charges in 5 to 7 hours; the bigger 60v Duo takes 8 to 10. The charger’s included.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes. The Evolution takes a rider up to 90 kg (around 14 stone). The Duo carries up to 160 kg in total (around 25 stone) across both seats.

Can two people ride together?

Yes, on the Evolution Duo. It’s a proper two-seat buggy with adjustable seats, so a parent and child or two friends can ride side by side. The Evolution is a single-seater.

Are they safe for kids?

They’re built with safety in mind: a key-operated speed limiter, hydraulic disc brakes and a low, stable frame. We’d always recommend a helmet and supervision for younger riders, and we stock helmets and safety gear too.
